I was looking for a creative way to encourage my son to work hard on his sight words. It had become quiet the challenge to keep my kindergartener engaged and I was desperate to keep it from becoming a battle. Finally I had the idea of using a reward system after he had been beggint o watch the new Lego movie on Cartoon Network. I logged onto tvbydirect.comand set up my DVR to record the upcoming movie. This was just the spark I needed to get him all interested in studying hard. We spent the next several days going over the words one by one. He was knocking them out faster than I had hoped for! We made a big deal about movie night and he seemed to enjoy it even more since he had earned it. For years, I have been telling my husband I wanted to get an alarm and he keeps telling me it is not necessary. Well, I think last week he started regretting all those years of telling me no. We had gone to a Christmas party and were gone for a few hours. When we came home, our house had been robbed. Our television was missing; all our computers and most of my jewelry had also been taken. My heart just sunk. I knew we needed total alarm systems to feel protected, but my husband kept turning me down. It has been a long time since I felt so much regret. I should have pushed harder and I should have made him get it. However, I just went with his answer and didn’t put my foot down. We had a huge blow out last semester after finals. We basically trashed our place because there were so many people there and so much beer. And as you can imagine – a ton of spillage as well.
